This is his music…

What is your favourite song of all time?

That’s a tough one for a music lover because it’s ever changing, today I would probably tell you Melody by Serge Gainsbourg.

Can you remember when you fell in love with it?

As a kid I already heard it on the radio because Serge Gainsbourg is a really big name in French music but I felt in love with the track later at around 20, when I bought the CD, discovering how the sad lyrics perfectly match with the melody (Nelson…), the wonderful duo with Jane Birkin and the beautiful orchestration.

Has a song or album ever changed your life?

That’s probably Metallica’s Black album, one of the very first CD I bought. I was 13, the age when I switched from a casual listener to a music lover and addict.

If you could only listen to five albums for the rest of time, what would they be?

Again, this choice is arbitrary, there are so many beloved ones that I’d be sad to leave. I found this list fit well because of the diversity.
–       Nick Drake: Five leaves left
–       Slayer: Season in the abyss
–       Pink Floyd: Wish you were here
–       Massive Attack: Mezzanine
–       Miles Davis : Kind Of Blue

How much of your day do you spend listening to music?

Not enough, I’d like to listen to more music. Unfortunately, I can’t at work and can’t when I’m producing my own music… so there is not much time left.

What’s your ideal time and place for listening to music?

I like to focus on what I’m listening to, so being able to wear a pair of good headphones, without doing anything else during the late evening is probably the best.

What’s the best gig/show you’ve ever been to?

I’ve been to a lot of gigs, some were good, some were great, and of course some were bad. Only a few moved me as much as Godspeed You Black Emperor when I saw them in Poitiers (France), in 2002. I’m still feeling the music in me.

Approximately how big is your music collection? And in what format?

I used to buy a lot of CD and probably own around 1000 albums, and then I transferred them to MP3 and started to buy in that format. I recently switched to streaming platforms. It’s good to have the ability to listen to anything but I feel it’s now paradoxically harder to discover new good music.

What does music mean to you?

As a listener, music is everywhere. Each piece of my record collection is linked to a period in my life and is associated with personal memories and I suspect the process to continue until I die. As a producer and composer, it’s feeling alive, the mean to express myself in a way I otherwise couldn’t. It’s a motor that is pushing me to do my best everyday.

What song should we all go and listen to right now to make our day better?

I’ve just listened to Holdon by Apparat on the Walls album and got my day better, so give it a try.
